Training Programs

SGS offers three core training programmes: WOME Functional Competence Foundation (2–3 days), covering hazard classification, storage and transport regulatory frameworks, ordnance identification, and AQAP-2110 procurement obligations; NATO Procurement and AQAP Compliance (1–2 days), designed for procurement officers managing STANAG 4107 contracts; and bespoke organisational programmes tailored to specific client requirements, role profiles, and audit evidence needs. All courses are designed to close the competence gap mandated by ISO 9001 Clause 7.2 and AQAP-2110, producing measurable, documented evidence of personnel competence for GQAR and internal audit purposes. Training is delivered in-person or online, as open-enrolment courses or closed-group sessions for organisational teams.

Typical participants include defence procurement officers and contract managers responsible for WOME supply chains; logistics and supply chain managers handling the storage, transport, or distribution of conventional munitions; quality assurance managers and GQAR counterparts working under AQAP-2110 or similar frameworks; safety case authors and regulatory compliance staff; legal and expert witness support teams engaged in WOME-related proceedings; and senior leaders in defence industry organisations who need sufficient WOME literacy to discharge governance obligations. Courses are calibrated to audience: Foundation programmes assume no prior WOME knowledge; NATO Procurement and AQAP courses assume a working understanding of defence procurement. Many participants are experienced procurement professionals who have never received formal WOME-specific training — filling a gap that generalist procurement or ISO 9001 training does not address.

All SGS training is delivered by or under the direct supervision of Steven Sawyers MIExpE VR. MIExpE denotes full Membership of the Institute of Explosives Engineers — the professional body representing civilian explosive specialists, with members working in quarrying, demolition, pyrotechnics, mining, and defence sectors. Membership requires demonstrated technical competence, relevant experience, and ongoing continuing professional development. The VR post-nominal denotes the Volunteer Reserve decoration, awarded for meritorious service. Steve’s professional background includes eight years at the NATO Support and Procurement Agency managing WOME procurement, combined with operational WOME inspection and technical assessment experience. This combination of institutional NATO experience, professional explosives engineering qualification, and procurement regulatory knowledge is rare and directly applicable to every course SGS delivers.

Yes. SGS training is available in-person, online via video conference, or in a blended format combining self-directed pre-reading with live facilitated sessions. Online delivery is well-suited to the Foundation module and introductory regulatory content, where participants need to build conceptual understanding before engaging with applied case studies. In-person delivery is recommended for workshops involving hazard classification exercises, regulatory document analysis, or procurement document review, where group discussion and scenario work add significant learning value. Closed-group organisational programmes can be structured to client preference. All delivery formats produce the same learning outcomes and generate the same documented competence evidence for ISO 9001 Clause 7.2 and AQAP-2110 audit purposes.
